A lot of garage doors in South Lyon are still running on the original 1990s-era hardware because nothing's forced an owner's hand yet. Springs from that era were sized for the doors of the time, and if the door itself has never been replaced, the spring, the cable drums, and sometimes even the opener are the same units that went in when the house was framed. That's not automatically a problem - well-built hardware from the early '90s can run three decades without complaint - but it does mean when something finally fails, it fails as a set. A torsion spring that's done 30 years of cycles usually means the cable drums and bearing plate aren't far behind. We check the whole assembly, not just the part that broke, because replacing one component on original hardware this old and leaving the rest is how you end up calling us back in six months.
